2014 Underwater Carvers

What to Expect: Get to the beach early to fnd parking and get your gear set up.  We will brief at 8:AM on the beach and then send you in to do your carving.  All divers must be back on shore no later than 9:AM.

When you arrive at the site, you'll be greeted by one of our volunteers who will sign you in, find out who your buddy is, and make sure we have a signed release form from you. It's a good idea to bring your form in prior to the event (that's how you sign up) or at the very least, to print and bring this completed form with you on Saturday morning.

No buddy?  No Problem! We'll be happy to find a dive buddy or buddy group for you, so don't be shy, you know that any friend of Maui Dreams is a friend of yours!

Carving Categories:  UNDER THE SEA (ocean inspired), MAKE ME LAUGH (carve something funny), FLASHBACK FUN (something from your favorite decade), and GORD-GEOUS (any gourd will do).  So there you have it!

RULES:  All carving (except your precleaning) must happen underwater.  All divers must enter and exit the water in buddy teams. Normal safe diving practices apply. Only certified divers may participate. Divers are not eligible to enter a carving category that they have previously won. Painted pumpkins or gourds of other varieties are welcome.  ALL DIVERS MUST BE OUT OF THE WATER BY 9:00 (please don't take your jack-o-lantern for a dive or we'll have to turn this into a search and recovery event instead).

Once out of the water, please check in with a member of our staff and then place your pumpkin on the tarp with the category you've chosen to enter.  Of course, once you're out of the water, you may add any finishing touches, props, etc. to your creation!

Voting will begin at 9:30 and winners will be announced as soon as the votes have been tallied.  The pumpkin with the MOST votes, no matter what the category, wins "Best of Show".

Cost:  PLEASE BRING TWO CANNED GOODS as you entry "fee" (which we will then take to the Maui Food Bank), and you do need to provide all your own supplies, carving implements and equipment, and remember to pre-clean your pumpkin!

How to sign up:  Bring this completed form to the shop to participate. Write your t-shirt size on the back. This event is for certified divers only. We really do need to know you're coming in advance so that we can plan and order t-shirts accordingly!

Tips:   You should pick up your tanks on Friday afternoon as the shop will be closed from 8-10ish on Saturday morning so that we can staff the event. Also, be sure to check out the categories in advance and decide where you'll have the least competition or at least where your carving will fit in...and let your creativity flow!

How do you like this year's event logo? We'll hand out these cool shirts right after prizes, so please stay until you've gotten yours and been part of our awesome group photo! See you there!

Curious about what those who have carved before have created?  Visit our gallery from 20132014, or 2015 to see what those who carved before you have done!
