We sure love us a full circle moment, which is just what happened when Taylor, who took an introductory dive with Curly 10 years ago, accepted a teaching position here at Maui Dreams. Read on to hear her take on things and also so that we can all agree that she looks the same as she did 10 years ago!
Curious about what you can eat underwater? If so, you've got Walter to thank for the serious research he's done on your behalf. Don't worry, no Walters were injured during filming, despite the gallons of pool water swallowed during these taste tests.
In this blog, Walter comes to some conclusions about the value of diving in poor vis. Read on and see what conclusions you come to!
Dive flags - they're required, and they could save your life. Or, you could leave yours in your car and end up having to go to court AND pay a fine. Violating the dive flag rule in Hawaii doesn't mean you just walk away with a ticket and a slap on the wrist; if you are cited for a dive flag violation, you will find yourself with a court date.
Corey has left the building! Known for more than just his affinity for spreadsheets and mismatched outfits, he will be missed because of his extreme competence in everything he does as well as for his kind heartedness. Read on for Corey's recap of the past four years.
We started carrying Shearwater computers this summer. Several of us are diving the Terics right now and Kelly has been diving the Perdix (although she couldn't resist the Teric either). At $450, their newest offering, the Peregrine computer, is also excellent and we've got one available for you to try out in our rental selection.
Even if you can't take your camera into the water with you this month, there's plenty of cool stuff that you CAN do, and here are our recommendations:
2. Improve your Digital Underwater Photography skills by signing up for some eLearning through PADI; eLearning courses are 25% off through the end of May!
3. Join David Attenborough for an interactive trip through the Great Barrier Reef. Okay, this one doesn't have much to do with underwater photography aside from all it took to make this - simply stunning!
Are you looking for something special? Maybe just some "me time" with the sea life without having to worrry about anyone else, how much air THEY have left, how fast THEY want to dive, what THEY want to see? Tired of going on those dives where you're looknig at sand kicked up by other divers or where you have to wait while they guide helps others with equalization or other problems? Whether you're a single diver or part of a small group, it's AWESOME to have the guide all to yourself! PRIVATE DIVES, baby!
Becoming a dive professional might be in your plans for your first career or for one later in life. Either way, PADI professionals can find work all around the world. Corey's plan came to fruition sooner than he expected, so it's a good thing he'd already become a Divemaster. Check out the first photo in his blog; that is from the day he earned his Divemaster rating back in 2014!
So you're Open Water certified, now what? Can you go diving as deep as you want? How deep CAN you go or should you go? Will the scuba police give you a ticket? In the following blog, Javier answers these questions and more.
The Maui Dreams crew attended a recent training session where we discussed Aloha, Kuleana, and Hookipa in depth. Since then, we've really been feeling and recognizing these values even more than before. Here's Corey's account of his recent experiences.
