Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest
When: Saturday, October 27th. Briefing is at 7:45AM, divers must be back on shore by 8:45AM.
Where: Keawakapu Beach, where South Kihei Road ends.
BYO (precleaned) PUMPKIN
What to Expect: Get to the beach early to fnd parking and get your gear set up. We will brief at 7:45 AM on the beach and then send you in to do your carving. All divers must be back on shore no later than 8:45 AM.
When you arrive at the site, you'll be greeted by one of our volunteers who will sign you in, find out who your buddy is, and make sure we have a signed release form from you. It's a good idea to bring your form in prior to the event (that's how you sign up) or at the very least, to print and bring this completed form with you on Saturday morning.
No buddy? No Problem! We'll be happy to find a dive buddy or buddy group for you, so don't be shy, you know that any friend of Maui Dreams is a friend of yours!
Carving Categories: This year's categories are Epic Emojis, Terrible Trash, Sugar Skulls, Totally Traditional, and Humus & Hawaiian Fish. Yes, we know some of these are open to interpretation, so go for it!
RULES: All carving (except your precleaning) must happen underwater. All divers must enter and exit the water in buddy teams. Normal safe diving practices apply. Only certified divers may participate. Divers are not eligible to enter a carving category that they have previously won. Painted pumpkins or gourds of other varieties are welcome. ALL DIVERS MUST BE OUT OF THE WATER BY 8:45 (please don't take your jack-o-lantern for a dive or we'll have to turn this into a search and recovery event instead).
How to sign up: Bring this completed form to the shop to participate. Write your t-shirt size on the back. We really do need to know you're coming in advance so that we can plan and order t-shirts accordingly!
Tips: You should pick up your tanks on Friday afternoon as the shop will be closed from 7:30 -10ish on Saturday morning so that we can staff the event. Also, be sure to check out the categories in advance and decide where you'll have the least competition or at least where your carving will fit in...and let your creativity flow!
FREE SHIRTS FOR ALL CARVERS! We'll hand out these cool shirts right after prizes, so please stay until you've gotten yours and been part of our awesome group photo! See you there!
